Saving Website Favorites

If you use the Internet, the likeliness of visiting a website again is pretty good.  It's also possible that you already save your favorites but do you know there are at least three ways to do this and you can even organize them?

This month we visit how to save Internet sites, organize them, and make hot sites available via one click.
Saving to the desktop

This is a very easy function but one should take care in doing this as pretty soon your desktop could be cluttered with shortcuts!

If you want to save all your favorites here, we suggest making a folder on the desktop and then putting your favorites into the folder.  This will help with housekeeping of all those favorite icons.

You can also make additional folders within folders for sorting or organizing them too.

To do this, open a web browser but not fully open. If the window opens fully, use the middle icon at the top right portion of the window to bring it into the middle.

Enter the website address that you want to visit.

After the website has displayed, simply click on the beginning of the address as shown to the right, holding the mouse button (left) drag this to your desktop.

If you want, make a folder and drag to the folder.

End result shows the icon resting on the desktop.

Saving to the browser favorites folder

No matter what make of web browser you use, it has a way to save favorites.  Bookmarks is another commonly used name for this function.

Most also allow the ability to organize these favorite saves too.

If you don't organize, pretty soon it becomes a cluttered mess much like most kids room.  Try and find a favorite in that mess.  :)

For this example we are going to use Internet Explorer, otherwise known as IE.

Once you have the website loaded that you wish to save, simply click on Favorites, then from the drop down menu, click add to favorites.

If you want to start organizing now, then follow a few more steps.

Following the previous step, click Favorites, then Add to Favorites.  Since we need to create a new organization folder, click on New Folder.

Create a name for this new folder and click Create.

This new folder should now show instantly in the "Create In" selection.  If not, simply use the drop down selector and find the newly created folder.

Now click Add and your favorite is now saved.

this or any favorites, just open your web browser, then click on favorites and drill down to the website you wish to visit.

Saving a website as a HotSite

If you use a website VERY often, why not put it where you can be one click away?

Open your web browser.  Click on view, then Toolbars, then follow over to "Links".

Now you will see a new area appear under your toolbar area.

Enter the address of the website you wish to save.

After the page loads, click, hold and drag to the open area.

This is the newly created area from the prior step.

Your site is now saved and obtainable in the future by just opening the browser and clicking on this saved link.

One click away!

Locking your Desktop

Good security means locking your desktop when leaving for extended periods, lunch or at the end of the day.  CTRL-ALT-DEL is the simplest however you can also use the Windows + L key to quickly lock the desktop.  Many will find this combination easier than the three finger sequence.
